Suzy Wald, Teen Program Coordinator joined Joe’s Movement Emporium in the fall of 2007 to coordinate Joe’s teen entertainment series, 3-D Productions. The objectives are to expose our youth population to art and live performance, cultivating their ability to participate as an appreciative audience, and spotlight their own talents. For the previous four years, Suzy served as Executive Director, Program Coordinator and Instructor for Ancestral Knowledge, Inc., a local nonprofit organization, that teaches the survival skills of indigenous peoples through experiential education. She currently serves on the Ancestral Knowledge Board of Directors. Suzy spent three years designing volunteer environmental restoration projects and coordinating smart growth education for professional contractors and engineers of the DC Department of the Environment, Watershed Protection Division. Her work with youth and the environment was inspired by a long-term mentoring position, that was as a part of a collaboration among the Potomac River Commission, the Maryland Conservation Corps, and Prince George’s Department of Economic Development. In this position, Suzy worked with a team of five to mentor three crews of 10 to 12 high school boys in a youth employment program which combined environmental education on local issues pertaining to the Anacostia River, with on-the-ground urban stream restoration works. |
