Learn the fundamentals of hoola hooping and hoop dance in this ongoing series of classes taught by Noelle of Hooping Powers. In it we will cover the basics of body hooping, including waist, neck, hand, and limb hooping, traveling, hoopdance, simple levels, angles, transitions, and tricks, and how we can use hooping as a metaphor for living well, a tool for strengthening the brain, and for improving one's overall mood. Blending modern and ethnic dance forms, it will have a strong focus on simplifying and clarifying movement, based on two holistic bodywork techniques Marcia has studied for many years – the Alexander Technique, and Normal Function. These complementary approaches increase ease, balance and flexibility, and are great fun to learn. No prior dance experience is needed -- only a desire to move more confidently and enjoyably. |
Modern Technique
with Day-Marquette
Day-Marquette offers a high impact modern repertoire and technique class. Technical training will be heavily based in the Lester Horton technique for improving strength and flexibility in the muscles of the body. Repertoire will be taught to the dancer as an opportunity to refine his/her technique while fusing it with his/her personal artistic expression. Emphasis will be given to building performance enhancing skills by maintaining technical efficiency and artistic integrity in new contemporary modern works. |
