Steve Nash is a native Washingtonian and graduate of Princeton University. He has traveled throughout the Caribbean and Central America to study the influence of African cultural expression in the Americas. He is an experienced drummer in many musical influences from Washington, D.C., Haiti, Belize, Mexico, Bermuda, Cuba, Ghana, Nigeria and other West African styles. He is a former Board Member of Soul in Motion Players , Latin American Folk Institute (LAFI) , Orchestra Ashe, Okantomi, Sense of Urgency Aye and of Havana Select. He has his own group AfroDice -Ajiki that focuses in on bata and other ritual styles of drumming. He has participated over the years in the Montgomery County and District of Columbia’s public schools and Library systems with CHIME, sharing his knowledge with the children. He has also performed with the Dance Theater of Harlem and at many festivals, dance studios, events at the Smithsonian and Kennedy Center. |
