“[Joe’s] made sure students felt comfortable.”
– Melissa Mackey Parkdale High School
Melissa Mackey teaches in a Special Education program at Parkdale High School for students ages 15-21. When students expressed interest in learning about hip-hop dance, Melissa applied for a grant from the Washington Post to bring Joe’s into her school for workshops. Melissa explained, “Brooke and the other instructors were so engaging and they made the classes fun. Their clear instructions made students feel comfortable. They watched to be sure our dancers were always following along.” This year, 20 students signed up for more classes. “Brooke was very generous and so accommodating. She was interested in anything I had to tell her about the students.” And, Melissa appreciates what Joe’s offers the Mount Rainer and Prince George’s County area: “Joe’s Movement provides such interesting experiences for people in the community…especially their events for teens and young adults on the weekends.”
