Beginning in January or 2009, Prince George's County Economic Development Corporation, Workforce Services Division, granted Joe's the funding to support our new theatre tech training program. Joe's Theatre Tech Program, seeks to train high school seniors and high school graduates, ages 16 to 21, to produce a competent, barriers to academic and career success, to produce a competent, skilled technical workforce that Joe's and many partners in the larger arts and entertainment community can employ for theater and studio productions. Joe's TTP provides employment training and placement, academic tutoring and professional workplace proficiency. Participants are paid minimum wage for approximately 10.5 hours per week of participation in this nine (9) month program. For 12 months after they graduate from the program, Joe's TTP staff provide individual mentoring and career coaching.
The core trainings for the theatre tech trade are lighting, sound, media production, events management and cultural activities. Participants spend approximately four (4) hours in these tech trainings weekly. Upon completion, participants get experiential education, working as event management and technical staff for Joe's Productions. The final phase is job placement. Participants attend Joe's theatre tech job fair, and receive assistance with job placement.
Enrollment is limited to those who meet eligibility requirements, based on income, residence, and existing barriers to success.
