In honor of Black History Month, Marietta is pleased to welcome historian Dr. Jessica Marie Johnson from Johns Hopkins University History Department who will discuss her new book, Wicked Flesh: Black Women, Intimacy, and Freedom in the Atlantic World. The story of freedom is shaped by the peculiar oppressions faced by African women and women of African descent. Dr. Johnson explores the nature of the complicated historical intimate and kinship ties and how they were used by black women to construct freedom in the Atlantic world. Thank you to the Prince George’s Historical Society for their support for this program. Virtual presentation on Microsoft Teams.
