OUT OF THE VINEYARD

Written by Psalmayene 24 • Directed by Tony Thomas • Produced by Joe’s Movement Emporium

Joe’s Movement Emporium proudly announces Out of the Vineyard in performance at Prince George’s Community College. Through the production of a play about freedom-making in Prince George’s County, MD we have accessed universal themes of place, race, and law that highlight America’s history, and challenges, to achieve justice for all.

Out of the Vineyard was written by playwright Psalmayene 24 who masterfully adapts the groundbreaking historical work A Question of Freedom: The Families Who Challenged Slavery from the Nation’s Founding to Civil War by historian William G. Thomas III for the stage. The audience witnesses visual portrayals of interviews from descendants, historians, and a judge that are intertwined with accounts of their families' pursuit of liberty. Their stories underscore the impact of battles with race and law, resonating with the essence of the pathways to freedom.

One comment shared the general sentiment of viewing the work, “This work was healing”.
