Rain or Shine: Join us outdoors at Joe's this summer for a festival vibe complete with craft and food vendors, hands-on art activities for kids, and performances from some of our summer favorites! "We outside" this summer!

This month's HJS features eclectic DMV-based band NEXUS DMV and Alex Hamburger, flutist, vocalist and composer also from the DMV. Come early to enjoy our opening act, Amuche the Poet.

Bring your own chair and good energy to add to the vibe! Event parking will be limited. Stay tuned for a parking location update. *Biking and walking recommended*

NEXUS DMV: A collective of versatile artists who aim to create genre-bending, live music experiences. Formed in 2016, this DMV-based band comprises of an eclectic blend of steelpan, vocals, bass and percussion.

NEXUS DMV core members express themselves individually as solo artists and performers with other musical acts in the Baltimore-Washington community and beyond. Each NEXUS DMV show is crafted with the audience in mind, with a variety of musical selections spanning R&B, Soul, Pop, Caribbean music and more.

Alex Hamburger: Alex Hamburger is a flutist, vocalist, and composer hailing from the vibrant music scene of Washington, DC. Raised in a family of accomplished artists, her passion for music ignited at a young age.

After some time in New York and studying in prestigious institutions in New York and Switzerland, Alex has returned to DC with a renewed sense of purpose. Alex's highly anticipated sophomore album, What If? (Unit Records, June 29th, 2023), delves into perception, transition, and the boundaries of human experience. With a quintet comprising talented musicians, (José Luiz Martins, Tyrone Allen II, Chase Elodia and Patrick Graney) the album fuses electric and acoustic sounds for an immersive narrative.

Amuche The Poet is an active local writer, educator, and teaching artist in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. She is a first-generation-born Black American whose poetry touches on the diaspora, sexual advocacy, mental health, and the female experience. Amuche is a 2024 DC Poet Project Finalist and is currently working on publishing her first collection of poetry. Through her writing, she aspires to heal, grow, and inspire people from all different walks of life.
