MD Poor People's Campaign: Jammin for Justice

  • Joe’s Movement Emporium 3309 Bunker Hill Road Mount Rainier United States (map)

"Song is one of the most powerful ways we have to unite people across difference, help share the message of a movement and build a collective identity. Movement music can help build confidence and courage in challenging situations, and help shape the atmosphere and set the stage for the spirit to transform our communities and our actions."

Today, the Maryland Poor People's Campaign-JAMMIN FOR JUSTICE benefit concert aims to draw on the rich history of social movement music, both old and new- from Spirituals to Labor Songs-- from Freedom Songs of the Civil Rights Movement to Music rising up from our struggles today. Artists featured during the benefit concert will speak to the essential cause of the Poor People's Campaign- Systematic Racism, Poverty, Ecological Devastation and the War Economy.

In anticipation of the June 20, 2020 Mass Poor People's Assembly and Moral March on Washington, where thousands of poor people and moral agents will gather at the nation's capital, we hope this momentous event gives you space to Join - Remember - Affirm - Honor - Rage - Celebrate - Practice new ways of being in being in relationship with One Another and the Earth, and to Envision and Create a World that is Just and Habitable for future generations.
